“Sometimes love happens when you least expect it.” That was what my husband’s mistress told me the day I found out about their affair.
I didn’t believe it until five minutes later when mouth-watering celebrity chef Tanner Reese walked up, tossed his arm around my shoulders, and told my cheating husband to take a hike.
Tanner and I couldn’t have been more different. He spent his weekends at clubs, rubbing elbows with fellow A-listers. I spent mine in yoga pants with cheese boards and a glass of wine—or six.
Our relationship shouldn’t have worked, but it did. That is until Tanner proved to me that even though love happens when you least expect it…
So does heartbreak.
“Sometimes fate brings you to a place in life for a reason. It’s not up to you to figure out what that reason is, it’s only up to you to decide what you’re going to make of it.”
Aly Martinez has such a way with words and telling a story. Across the Horizon is beautifully written, witty, and such a sweet love story. I was thrilled that we were going to get Tanner’s story, because the firs books in the series I absolutely LOVED! I mean LOVED so hard. Tanner is the brother to Porter whom we only got glimpses of here and there, but Across the Horizon we get to actually know Tanner. What his passions are, that he loves to joke and sometimes, well maybe more than sometimes he loves to give his brother a hard time but in a fun way. That he loves his family and that meeting Rita changed everything for him.
Tanner Reese has yet to meet a woman who actually likes him for being him, that wants to truly get to know him, and not looking for the next big break. Tanner has always had his walls up when it came to women and each woman simply didn’t cut the job. They dove at him with stars in their eyes, but meeting Rita was the complete opposite.
Rita has spent the last 7 years of her life devoted to her husband, but when she discovers that her husband has been less than loyal to her and has been having an affair she realizes her life hasn’t been for herself. She leaves her marriage and begins to discover just who she is, and Tanner is there to help her do so.
I absolutely love these characters. Their banter between one another was a breath of fresh air. Yes they each have their own things going on but this book was still light, and fun. It left me smiling more times than I can count. They were the perfect couple to compliment one another and each grew in ways they never knew they could and it was all with the help of the other being there and not giving up.
“Look, it’s mental. You can’t be afraid of falling back down or you’ll never reach the top. You have to go after it with a hundred percent confidence.”
Did I mention that Aly has a way with words and within this book there are some beautiful worded passages that are so uplifting.
Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.
Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.
She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
